Description
The Past in the Present – Gyumri, oil painting by Eduard Kechyan
Oil paint on 3mm thick hard cardboard.
Walking around in Gyumri, a city in Armenia, I saw an old house. It stood out because it was surrounded by a newly laid street and new bus stops close by. The mix of colors, the archway and the stairways going up.
It inspired me. Looking at it I saw a art. I saw a painting.
After finishing the painting I saw something new in it. I saw the past. The past of the city. Surrounded by the newer neighborhood. That’s how I came up with its name.
About Artist
I’m an aspiring artist who began painting from a young age. I got motivated by my father, who is also an artist, to paint. I began painting with children’s watercolor when I was 4 years old.
At the age of 7 I took painting classes, right after entering school. I got into professional painting after enrolling in the Armenian State Pedagogical University (Faculty of Art Education).
After trying watercolor, gouache, acrylic and oil paint, I decided to continue my career with oil paint. I believe that from all these paints only oil paint can assist me in bringing my imagination to life.
I draw inspiration from nature, architecture, and from Armenia, where I currently live.
