“Komitas: Through the Songs”, acrylic painting by Mary Khachikyan

On the right side of the painting is the figure of Komitas, surrounded by his works. The apricot tree, the incense tree, the skylark, and the swallow symbolize Komitas’s songs of the same names. These were originally written in khaz notation and have since been transformed into musical notes, as depicted in the painting. Over time, as music changed its system of notation, it passed through the art of Komitas and reached us on the wings of his swallow.
