    Aklatis, by Lilit Vardanyan

    Fasting was a widespread tradition in Armenia. The doll called “Aklatis”would be hang above the fireplaces of each family. Because it supposed to have a scary look, it would serve for them as a guard for the feast. It was believed that if the family member tried to break the feast, the doll can punish them by throwing little stones on them and spreading hot pepper around their eyes. 7 Feathers on onion were symbolizing the time of the feast.
